Restoration of water body begins in Stok village in Ladakh

Srinagar, Apr 01: Repair and restoration work of a vital water body in Stok village of Ladakh has commenced in full swing following a recent inspection and directions issued on March 26, 2026.   Office of the LG Ladakh in a post on "X" said, “Works have started in full swing for the repair and restoration of the water body at Stok village, following my visit and subsequent directions, on March 26, 2026.”   “The existing depression is being by cleaned, de-silted and dredged, to augment the

water holding capacity, while the walls are also being repaired and strengthened. Concerned officials, with active support of the local villagers, are monitoring the progress of works,” the LG said.   It said once fully restored, the water body will be capable of fulfilling the water requirements of the villagers. “We are committed to make every village in Ladakh, water sufficient.”   Officials said that the initiative aims to enhance water storage capacity and ensure sustainable water availability for the local population.   Concerned authorities, in coordination with local

villagers, are closely monitoring the progress of the restoration work. The active participation of residents is being seen as a key factor in ensuring the timely completion of the project.   Locals have expressed hope that once the restoration is completed, the water body will adequately meet their daily water requirements and reduce dependency on external sources.   Officials reiterated their commitment to making every village in Ladakh water-sufficient, stating that such initiatives are part of broader efforts to strengthen water infrastructure across the region.
